William Miller, a Baptist lay preacher living in Upstate New York began to preach in 1833 that Jesus was coming soon. The materials in this collection represent the growth, expansion and final disappointment of what became to be known as the Millerite Movement.

Besides Seventh-day Adventists, other groups sprang from the Millerite Movement, including the believers in the shut-door theory and the Advent Christian Church. Other organizations have detached from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, but still hold some similar beliefs. Still other groups have Seventh-day Adventist origins, but are completely dissimilar in belief. This collection includes items from these types of organizations.
