Leatha to parents. 1933 July 31, Kalgan, Chahar. ALS, 3 ½ pp. -- Tells how all telephone lines between Kalgan and Peking have been cut and she is worried as Elmer is still sick with pleurisy and they have 48 patients in the hospital. All the doctors in Shanghai, except Harry Miller, have gone on vacation and they can’t find anyone to come help. She has had to work until 11:30 at night which isn’t easy as the lights go out at 9:30. Describes the ordeal of getting a patient admitted: running home to make a straw tick or get a quilt made; run and pull a pillow off another patient’s bed… If Mr. Erich leaves, Leatha feels they would have to close the hospital. Describes a wedding she went to.
