Leatha to parents. 1933 May, Kalgan, China. ALS, 4 pp. -- Talks about receiving Dad’s letter, Elmer going to the train station to pick up fruit and vegetables they have sent up from Peking once a week, Elmer has to see patients outside. Describes some of the cases Elmer has had, the number of patients currently in the hospital and funds collected for the month. Asks for some more quilting fabric and 65$ for a new bicycle for the nurse to use going up to the clinic every day, powder shakers for the operating room, material to sew on the sleeves of surgical gowns, and sponge rings. Thanks them for the things they have sent. Describes returning from the clinic on the bicycle over the bridge with a band of soldiers crossing at the same time. Describes how retreating soldiers and bandits, 3000 strong, camped a few feet from the compound the night before, how machine guns are stationed less than a block away. Planted lotus bulbs in the lily pond. Made sheets for new patients.
